Kundapur, Apr 7: 'The delimitation of assembly constituencies has materialized my long cherished dream to contest the polls from my native constituency,' said Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA candidate of Congress of Kundapur constituency.
He was addressing the public rally organized to mark his admission to the Congress here on Sunday April 6.
He further said that the electorates of Brahmavar never disappointed him and added that he had put all efforts to protect the interests of fisher folk and many developmental works have been taken up during his tenure in Brahmavar constituency. He also expressed his gratitude to the public for their overwhelming support.
'I have also fulfilled my responsibility whenever I was in the opposition party. The assembly elections are a new episode in my political career. The Congress has doubled my role and responsibility,' he emphasized.
'Visiting people of my constituency and listening to their grievances are my prime responsibility. I will definitely fight to safeguard and protect the interests of farmers and fisher-folk,' he assured.
S Siddaramayya, Congress leader cautioned people to guard themselves against BJP and JD(S) who are 'hungry for power.'
Dr M Veerappa Moily, a top brass leader of the Congress said that BJP has been to pose itself as the sole inheritor of Hindutva. Its sole intention is power; the dream will never be a reality, he added.
District Congress president M A Ghafoor presided over the programme. K Dinakar Shetty welcomed the guests while Malyady Shivaram Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
Oscar Fernandes flagged off the rally and welcomed Jayaprakash Hegde to the party. Pratap Chandra Shetty, Gopal Poojary, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, industrialist Pramod Madhwaraj, U R Sabapathy, B A Moiddin Bava, Manjunath Bhandary and others were present on the occasion.
