Kasargod: Student trying to prune tree gets electrocuted

Kasargod, May 30: In a tragic incident which happened on the evening of Sunday May 28, a student died after coming in contact with high tension cable passing above when trying to cut down the branch of a drumstick tree that had bent over the upper floor of a house. The incident occurred at Periyatadka in the district.

The deceased happened to be Janith (17), son of Rajan and Mallika couple, who hail from Nagarcoil, Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.

Janith had come here to spend holidays in the company of his married sister. He was trying to cut down the branch of a tree that had leaned on the house of Cherumba Sundar Singh in Periyatadka near his sister's house, when the branch fell on the high tension power line. When he tried to pull away the branch, he suffered violent electric shocks. Although he was rushed to a hospital immediately, his life could not be saved.

The body was subjected to postmortem at the government general hospital here on Monday before being taken to Nagarcoil for funeral. A case of unnatural death was registered about this incident in Bekal police station.
