Udupi, May 22: A woman committed suicide at her husband's house at Karandady here on Monday May 22, just a month after her marriage.
The deceased has been identified as Usha (32), wife of Manohar, resident of Majoor in Karandady.
Usha, originally from Karje had married Manohar in April.
It is learnt that on Monday, Usha went to her room and locked herself in, while her mother-in-law was preparing lunch in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Manohar came home for lunch, and found that the door of his room had been locked from the inside. He called out to his wife asking her to open the door, but there was no response.
Assuming that Usha might have fallen asleep, Manohar went over to the window of the room so he could wake her up, but to his shock, he found her hanging from the ceiling fan. He immediately broke down the door and rushed to rescue her, but by then she had already breathed her last, sources said.
Kaup police led by SI Jagadish Reddy arrived at the spot and also informed about Usha's death to her mother as well as to tahsildar Maheshchandra. After the tahsildar arrived at the spot, the body was taken down and sent for post-mortem to Udupi district hospital.
The reason for taking the extreme step is not known.
Kaup police have registered a case.
