Udupi, May 22: A couple got married here as per Buddhist rituals on Sunday, May 21. It is reported that this is the first such wedding held in the city.
The wedding took place at Ambedkar Bhavan here.
Ravindra and Kushala are the newly wedded couple.
Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Buddhist Mahasabha had organized the wedding.
Ravindra works for KSRTC in Kundapur and Kushala works for a cashew factory. They fell in love with each other one and half years back.
They took the blessings and permission from their families to spend the life together and decided to get married.
Both are active in Dalit movement. Ravindra is active in Dalit Kala Mandali of Udupi.
Ravindra embraced Buddhism in 2012. Kushala was introduced to the religion recently.
Buddhist religious person Gauthami Mathaji form Mysuru delivered the homily.
Ancient rituals were followed during the ceremony. Pali language was used in prayers and chants.
Buddhist Mahasabha issued the certificate to the couple.
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods were served for the guests.
