Udupi: Undertrials at Hiriadka jail clash over TV remote, one hospitalised

Udupi, May 22: A clash erupted among undertrials at Hiriadka jail here late night on Sunday May 21, resulting in injuries to at least prisoner. The incident came to light on Monday May 22.

It is said that the undertrials clashed over TV remote while reportedly watching IPL finals in the jail.

Tony James, an undertrial who was arrested in a case relating to some clash in a train, was injured in the incident.

It is alleged that six other undertrials, five of them identified as Prashanth Shetty, Prashant Mogaveera, Prashant Ballal, Anand Marathi and Vikram Kundapur, assaulted Tony with a carrom board and caused injuries on his face and head.

The incident came to light only on Monday when jail personnel found Tony lying unconscious in the cell. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital where he has been admitted.

Tony is from Kerala and had been lodged in Mangaluru jail, before being shifted to Hiriadka prison.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.
