Kundapur, May 22: A commuter was assaulted by Sastan tollgate staff and some others on the evening of Sunday, May 21. The commuter has sustained serious injury to his eyes.
Prabhakar Shetty from Baikady is the person injured. He also has some minor injuries to his legs and hands.
As per recent reports, Prabhakar Shetty was riding towards Byndoor with his son. When he reached Sastan tollgate, gate of the tollgate plaza fell on his car. An argument took place regarding the issue for about half an hour. At this time, tollgate staff and some other people used abusive words against Prabhakar and assaulted him suddenly.
Prabhakar sustained serious injury to his eyes and also some minor injury to his hands and legs due to the assault.
Abusive behaviour with woman
Earlier the tollgate staff members were accused of using abusive words against a woman from Suratkal. The woman had lodged a police complaint at Kota police station on this matter. People had condemned the behaviour of tollgate staff then.
No proper CCTV
Though the tollgate station is very big, the single CCTV installed there, does not capture the happenings properly. Even the images captured look blurred because of the distance.
‘We did not assault commuter’
The tollgate manager later said that his staff did not assault the commuter as alleged. “There was some chaos due to arguments. We tried our best to bring the situation under control. But at that time some people, who had gathered there, suddenly assaulted Prabhakar,” he said.
Prabhakar has maintained that he was assaulted by the tollgate staff only. Kota police are investigating.
