Mangaluru: 23-year-old youth dies of suspected rabies at Bajpe

Mangaluru, May 21: A young man died of suspected rabies at Bajpe near here on Saturday, May 20.

Sushant (23) from Thokkur is the person deceased. He was working at MRPL on contract basis.

Sushant had complained that the dog at his house had scratched him three months back. Though he had sustained injuries to his body, he had not taken it seriously. He did not take any medicine or injection for the same.

The dog died some days later, but no one suspected anything.

On May 19, Sushant experienced high fever and he was taken to a hospital and got admitted. He breathed his last the next day.

Doctor at the hospital said that Sushant died due to complications related to dog bite without confirming that it was rabies.

    Street dogs now a days are a menance, Many people are very scared of wlaking on street now due to the presence of large number of street dogs. I am rally scared now during my morning wlak as street dogs are roaming freely in my area. The authorities must take steps to prevent street dogs from biting innocnet human beings Rabies injections are very costly too Unless we take adequate steps to prevent street dogs amny innocnet human beings wil die soon I reuest all authorities to adequate action against dogs who bite innocent human beings and take measures against their replication

    Always we should not touch street dogs and home dogs without vaccinating them. This is the message for all Dog lovers.

    Negligence on his part cost him his life. Dog bite whether domestic or stray to be treated immediately. May his soul rest in peace. All his colleagues and home people to be treated for suspected rabies.

    RIP Sushant.

    Hope the health officials know the seriousness of the case. Immediate precautionary measures need to be taken to avoid gradual death of all he has been in contact with and the dogs in the vicinity need to be vaccinated to avoid further casualties.

    Only high fever is not symptom of rabies. It is one of the many.
    Doctors attributing it to dog byte and washing their hands is no good unless doing required tests.

    Main symptoms the medical fraternity observes in rabies patients is shunning from light and water. The youth is lucky to have died so early, cases can go to such gory extreme that we humans cannot describe or witness the condition.

    A wrong diagnosis can land the hospital in trouble.
