Mangaluru, May 18: An under-trial prisoner kept in the district prison had to be hospitalized on Wednesday May 17 morning after the prison officials were told that he had consumed excessive dose of medicines. He has been admitted into the district Wenlock hospital here.
Biju alias Jose (31) from Thiruvananthapuram had been arrested by Railway Protection Force personnel after catching him red-handed while stealing at the railway station. The court had sentenced him to a year of imprisonment.
He was suffering from certain ailments. On Wednesday morning, he approached the prison officials, seeking to be admitted into the hospital, duly informing them that he had consumed an overdose of tablets. He was admitted into the emergency section of Wenlock Hospital at around 11 am on Wednesday. Some time later, he was shifted to the prison section of the hospital.
During his questioning by the police, Biju told them that he had consumed excessive dose of medicines as he desired to get well soon, and that it was not a suicide attempt. The jail superintendent stated that this under-trial prisoner was in the habit of behaving dramatically at times and that a report about this incident has been prepared.
