Bengaluru, May 17: In a major relief to lakhs of families across the State, the Siddaramaiah Cabinet on Wednesday approved regularisation of dwelling houses built on 30x40 sq ft sites in urban areas.
The sites located within a distance 18 km from the limits of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), 10 km from of Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru and Mysuru City Corporations, and 5 km and 10 km and 3 km respectively from all city municipalities, town municipal councils and town panchayats will be regularised as per a decision taken at the State Cabinet Meeting presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Briefing reporters on the decisions taken at a Cabinet meeting, Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, ex-servicemen, physically handicapped people are eligible to regularise sites by paying penalty of Rs 5,000.
Families/candidates belonged to general category can regularise their sites by paying penalty of Rs 10,000 for 30x30 ftsites, he said.
The State Cabinet approved revised estimates of Rs581crore for the World Bank aided Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP). It was earlier estimated to cost Rs 276 crore.
Repair and rehabilitation works to improve the safety of the dams is being undertaken under the consultancy of Central Water Commission(CWC).
The works included plugging the leakages, cracks and strengthening the structures, Jayachandra said.
List of dams under the project
The project for repair and improvement of dams would cover the folloowing dams, KRS, Narayanapura, Almatti, Hidkal, Malaprabha, Dharma Reservoir, Karanja, Amarja, Lower Mullamari, Bhadra, Tungabhadra, Hemavathy, Devarabelekere, MadagaMasur, Maskinagala, Vatehole, Gayathri Reservoir, Chikkahole, Hagaribommanahalli, Chulkinala, Mallagatta, Upper Mullamari, Lower Mullamari, Hattikuni, VanivilasSagar, Harangi and Kabini dams in the state, Water Resources minister MB Patil said.
Report on Reservation in Promotions to SC/STs
The State Cabinet has accepted the report submitted by a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary in the case related to Supreme Court order quashing reservation for SC/STs in promotion in government service.
The committee was asked to compile data on the extent of the backwardness of the SC/STs and inadequacy of their representation in various departments.
The report would be used to strengthen the argument in the Supreme Court in defending reservation for SC/STs in promotion. Earlier the cabinet had authorised Backward Classes Commission to compile the data.
The State Government has filed a review petition in the apex court against the order striking down the promotions awarded for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe employees since 1978.
State Legislature Session from June 5
The monsoon session of state legislature would be held from June 5 to 16.
The 12-day session would see continued debate on the state budget as the budget session had approved just the vote on account for the first three months of the financial year.
