Mangaluru, May 17: City police commissioner, S Chandra Sekhar, said that the personnel of his department are searching for the other accused, Rakesh, in the case in which a senior doctor of a reputed hospital in the city was pressurized to cough up Rs 14 lac, and the lady involved with the crime. He was addressing a press conference here on Tuesday May 16.
"The police have arrested Narayana Salian (52) from Someshwar, as well as Muhammed Ranji (23) and Sadiq (30), both from Ullal, in the case. We are searching for Rakesh, two other accomplices, and the the lady through whom the doctor was lured into the trap. The accused had collected Rs 14 lac from the doctor by threatening to sully his image through social media. They also had bought goods worth about Rs 3 lac after taking into possession a credit card belonging to the doctor," he explained.
He said that Narayana Salian, who is one among the prime accused, had been involved with criminal cases in the past too. He was one of the participants in the shootout incidents targetting Muttappa Rai and Rakesh Malli in the past, the police commisisoner revealed.
One of the accused, Ranji, had lured a doctor of a leading hospital by laying honey-trap. With the help of a lady, he was asked to visit a spot in the city from where he was abducted and taken to a room at Someshwar. He was denuded there and his photos in the company of the lady in different postures were taken. By threatening the doctor of posting these pictures in social websites, the gang had forced him to pay Rs 14 lac to them. After they came up with demand for more money, the doctor had filed police complaint in Kadri station.
