Udupi, May 13: "Even recollecting about a great human being, Dr Shivaram Karanth, brings with it an air of auspiciousness. He had contributed immensely to literary and Yakshagana sectors. We Kannadigas feel proud that a veteran Kannada litterateur, Karanth, had lived here and won the coveted Jnanpith Award," said former chief minister of Karnataka and state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa.
He was addressing a gathering at a simple programme organised on the occasion of his visit to Shivaram Karanth theme park located in Kotathattu gram panchayat on Saturday, May 13.
"In the past, when I was approached with a request for grants for the construction of a memorial for Dr Karanth in Kota, I had released one crore rupees. When I learnt that this amount was insufficient, I recommended to the then government to release another crore rupees. The theme park has emerged at a cost of two crore rupees, and I feel lucky to personally visit the theme park and look at how it has blossomed," he stated.
On this occasion, Yeddyurappa was felicitated on behalf of Kotathattu gram panchayat. BJP district president, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, BJP leaders, Udayakumar Shetty, Gurme Suresh Shetty,Kiran Kodgi, Yashpal Suvarna, former MLA, Raghupati Bhat, Kundapur region BJP president, Suresh Shetty Kadoor, zilla panchayat members, Raghavendra Kanchan and Shreelatha Suresh Shetty and others were present.
MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, welcomed and delivered the introductory address, Gram panchayat president, Pramod Hande, presented the programme.
