Mangalore, Mar 30: The Mangalore Taluk Panchayat (MTP) adopted a resolution to review the daily wages of workers who work under the NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme from Rs 74 to Rs 150. As a natural corollary the panchayat body has decided to write a letter to the State government in this regard.

The resolution was adopted at the General Body Meeting (GMB) convened to discuss the implementation of NREGA and review the action plan for the same, which was  held at the taluk panchayat premises here on Saturday March 29.

The taluk panchayat chief executive officer promised to direct the secretaries of all village panchayats, into preparing  a new action plan taking all into confidence. Members of the panchayat also decided to give their seal of approval to the action plans of other village panchayats.

However, some members of the panchayat meeting expressed their unhappiness about the significance of the GMB, labeling it as 'a namesake' meeting only. This conjecture was largely due to objections raised by Prithvi Raj, one of the members of the taluk panchayat stating that action plans had already been put forth, despite the meeting being in an on-going stage.

A visibly ruffled Prithvi Raj was stopped by other members of the panchayat from staging a walk-out, when he was not convinced of the version put forth by the president of the panchayat, who had been trying to do so for umpteen times.

Shriyala Hegde the president of taluk panchayat, Suresh Shetty and others were present at the meeting.
