Udupi, Mar 24: BJP has no capable leaders, hence it is depicting B S Yedyurappa as its chief ministerial candidate. But Congress is not in a similar situation and has dozens of capable leaders, said Dr M Veerappa Moily, chairman of the union Administrative Reforms Commission and member of AICC.
He was speaking to news persons at Congress Bhavan here on Saturday March 22.
When asked if the party is not facing the problem of plenty, Dr Moily said having many leaders is always favourable to the party. He also emphasized that he is not aspiring for power; instead, he is keen on executing responsibility entrusted by Sonia Gandhi, chairman of Indian National Congress Party.
Hanging on to power and running after power is the nature of the leaders of BJP and JD(S). Now they have reached nadir and definitely in the impending polls their future will be ruined, he added.
The party loses nothing if polls are conducted early, rather the party will thrive on the early polls as the electorates may probably not forget the injustice and corruption during the tenure of the coalition government of JD(S) and BJP, he stressed.
Congress never urged the authorities concerned to put off the polls. It is the legal hurdles and request by the chief election commission that constrained the authorities to defer the polls in the wake of the possibility of bogus electorates in the voters lists, Dr Moily said.
The time taken by the commission to revise the voters list leads to suspicion as the commission sought time of six months to prepare the list, but it took less time to come up with the revised list. The party has strong opposition to the 'hurry' of the election commission.
He also alleged that deputy commissioners have deleted voters' names randomly in order to fulfill the formalities of chief election commission that directed them to delete 4 percent of names from the list while revising it to cater to conducting fair elections. The unwise deletion is against the ethics of the democracy, he added.
