Belagavi, Apr 26: A dog that was looked after and cared for by Kaveri, who died after slipping into an abandoned dry borewell at Jhunjurwada village in Athani taluk of the district, has been silently grieving for the girl, whose love and care it has been deprived of now.
The six-year-old girl's funeral was conducted at around 3 am on Tuesday April 25 in the field of a relative near her home. After the body of Kaveri was retrieved from the borwell at 11.34 pm on Monday, postmortem of the body was conducted at Kokatanur primary health centre before the mortal remains were entrusted to her parents. As considerable time had already elapsed since her death, Kaveri's body was buried early morning on Tuesday.
Even as Kaveri's parents and relatives wailed loudly at the catastrophe that has befallen them all of a sudden, an equally grief-stricken dog could be seen restlessly moving around the grave of the girl and shedding tears, although apparently it was fearful about the presence of many people at this place. It is gathered that this dog, which was raised lovingly by Kaveri, was christened 'Chinnu' by her.
The dog could be seen suffering from within since Kaveri got stuck inside the borewell and rescue operations were in full force. After the funeral, it went near the grave of the girl and silently shed the tears, which made the hearts of the people watching it to melt.
