Mangaluru, Apr 23: State revenue minister Kagodu Thimmappa on Sunday April 23 said that shortage of staff in the revenue department was hampering work, and assure that vacancies in the department would be filled through direct recruitment soon.
He was speaking after inaugurating Revenue Day-2017 at Town Hall here. The programme was jointly organised by the Karnataka state revenue department employees' association Dakshina Kannada unit.
"I have inaugurated Revenue Day for the first time and it is being celebrated after a long gap. The revenue employees' association has put up some demands in front of me and in this regard, I will have a breif discussion with the office-bearers concerned so that we can come to a conclusion on fulfilling the demands.
"There are certain barriers in recruitment and promotion in the revenue department. We will take stern decisions in filling the vacancies through direct recruitment in the department. Many posts are left vacant in the department and due to staff shortage there is delay in completion of works. Village accountant office will also be constructed wherever required," he said.
"The revenue department has much more responsibility on its shoulders today than in the past and needs to run the administration in a sincere manner," he added.
MLC Ivan D'Souza, MLA Abhaychandra Jain, MLA J R Lobo, deputy commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha and others were present.
