Mangaluru, Apr 23: In a case involving the theft of Rs 7.4 lacs that took place at Suvarna Lane in Kankanady in 2015, two accused have been acquitted by second additional C J M court on Saturday, April 22.
Parvathi (28) and Puttaraju (42) are the two accused, who have been acquitted.
The theft had taken place on August 30 in 2015 at 11 pm. Parvathi, originally from Davanagere and who stayed Bajal, worked part time as maid at the house of Shankari Rai. Shankari discovered that her jewellery was missing on the mentioned date. On the same day Parvathi also went missing. Shankari complained to the Pandeshwar police about the theft. Police arrested Parvathi and her husband later and seized the jewellery from them. The couple had gone to Davanagere to sell the jewellery.
In the judgment, the court said that the prosecution failed to prove that the accused committed the theft for which they were arrested and tried. Advocate Talekana Radhakrishna had defended the accused.
