Mangalore, Mar 20: "Since today we are living in an era of knowledge economy, generation of ideas and creativity should be protected. Towards this end protection of intellectual property is a must," opined K Laxminarayana, general manger (projects) ONGC and MRPL.
He was speaking after inaugurating the the Workshop on Intellectual property rights, hosted by SDM College of business management at the college hall here, on Thursday March 20.
According to him protection of intellectual rights is necessary to protect the interest and existence of firms. Claim on intellectual rights by individuals may mar the existence of respective firms, he opined with reference to some cases of legal wrangling.
PR Dhanvantri, nodal officer of KSCST, Bangalore and SG Hegde, joint director of District Industries Centre briefed on KSCST and KCTU respectively, while Srinivas S Kamath, vice-president of KCCI welcomed the gathering and delivered the presidential address.
GG Mohandas Prabhu, secretary of KCCI proposed vote of thanks.
Dr Devaraj K, director of city's SDM College of Business Management and others were present on the occasion.
