Mangalore, Mar 17: Around 15,200 students of the district will appear for II PU examinations to be held from March 17-29.

In a release, deputy director of PU education R Basavarajappa said the exams would be held at 38 centres. Mangalore taluk has the highest number of students (13,506) writing the exams while Sullia has the lowest: 1,961 students. The number of students in other taluks: 3,722 in Puttur, 3,538 in Bantwal, and 2,473 in Belthangady.

Based on the number of students appearing for the exams, 20 centres have been set up in Mangalore taluk. The number of centres in other taluks: Bantwal 7, Puttur and Sullia 4 each, and Belthangady 3.

Speaking on the precautionary measures taken to ensure smooth conduct of the exams, Basavarajappa said the district additional magistrate had issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 in 200-metre radius of each centre. Photocopying centres near the exam centres have been instructed not carry out business while the exams are in progress. Besides appointing nodal officers in all examination centres, the department has formed a district vigilance squad to avoid irregularities during the examinations, he said.
