Mangalore, Mar 17:
"The state is bestowed with amazing tourist destinations, however, the destinations are lacking in infrastructure," lamented Tamilvanan, chairman of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).

Tamilvanan was addressing a gathering at a one-day seminar on 'Heritage Tourism Prospects in Coastal Karnataka,' organized by the Heritage club here at St Aloysius College on Saturday March 15.

'The infrastructure at places of interest must be improved, as the sector is capable of generating employment and providing platform wherein one can invest capital. Thus it will prove to be an appropriate means for development of state tourism,' he added.

The arrival of 18 tourist ships at NMPT from abroad during the present year has brought in a ray of hope. It must be noted that NMPT welcomed only two ships of the same type during the previous year. NMPT is committed to extending the best possible cooperation for the overall development of the coastal tourism, he assured.

Shivalingappa, director of the department of tourism delivered the inaugural address. Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal of St Aloysius First Grade college presided over the inaugural session of the seminar and Dr Vishwanaatha Badikana, faculty member welcomed the gathering.
