Mangalore, Mar 15: After campaigning for a public cause the volunteers of three-day malaria eradication door-to-door campaign fought against the injustice meted out by the officials of Mangalore City Corporation with regard to the payment of remuneration the latter had assured before the commencement of campaign.
The health department and Mangalore City Corporation appointed above thousand nursing students and 450 anganwadi workers to create awareness among the citizens regarding malaria. They were assured of paying 100 rupees per day as remuneration.
After the culmination of the campaign students asked for the payment but they were shocked when the officials said that they will not be paid immediately. Though initially officials gave technical reason for the delay of payment, later they changed their tone by saying that there were no sufficient funds to pay remuneration.
Though the officials were of the opinion that it was not their responsibility to pay remuneration to the volunteers, they had to give in as the students did not leave the place till they were paid.
