Mangalore, Mar 14: Development of typography has direct implications on the development of language and journalism, said Ganesha Somayagi, veteran artist.
He was addressing the gathering at the inaugural ceremony of Chandada Kannada, exhibition of designers’ calligraphy and typography in Kannada held at Prasad Art Gallery here on Friday March 14.
Presenting literature or texts in attractive fonts may inspire people to read more, thereby giving a fillip to reading habits. Hence beautification of fonts is highly essential, he added.
In his inaugural address Dr Mohan Alva, president of Alva’s Foundation lamented that Kannada being a linguistically rich language, does not have sufficient number of fonts and opined that exhibitions like Chandada Kannada allow creative experimentations on fonts in Kannada language.
The exhibition will culminate on Tuesday March 18.
