Udupi, April 5: Water in three wells in New Colony, Kodankooru, Nittooru has turned blue. Local people unable to use water from their own or government wells are suffering due to scarcity of water.
Lalitha, a local was using water from a well for the last 15 years. Six families in their neighbourhood were also depending on it. However, the water has turned blue for the last two days. As it stinks, they are not able to consume it.
There is acute scarcity of water, and the fate of government well is also similar. Officials have taken samples of water after locals complained to the municipal council officials.
“A local here got some drainage work done. As it was not done properly, the contaminated water has mixed with the clean water of the well,” said municipal council engineer Ganesh K.
Several people have suffered due to deadly diseases such as dengue here. Locals have urged the council to take action against contractors who do shoddy drainage work.
