M'lore: Bonanza for Biking Fans - Gulf Dirt Track Racing in City

Mangalore, Mar 14: Come April, there is a bonanza in offing for race track enthusiasts and aficionados with the first leg of the Gulf Dirt Track Racing (GDTR) to be held in the city on April 26 and 27.
 
The GDTR event is being organized by Sportscraft and is sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation. In fact it enters its fifth year this season. According to the organizers the competition is divided into four qualifying rounds and a final fifth round.  

A minimum of six and maximum of 15 riders will be selected from each class from the qualifying rounds to compete in the final. To qualify for the final, the riders must finish at least three of the four rounds with cumulative points from the four rounds to be considered as well, a release issued here today said.
 
Apart from the prize money the riders will win in each round, over Rs 4 lac has been earmarked for the final leg. The racing schedule of GDTR is as follows:

Round 1: April 26-27 at Mangalore

Round 2: May 17-18 at Surat/Pune/Mumbai

Round 3: Nov 15-16, location to be announced

Round 4: Dec 13-14, location to be announced

Final round: Feb 2009, location to be announced.
