Puttur, Apr 1: After they came to know that some students staying in a paying guest accommodation here had consumed drugs in the guise of celebrating birthday, police from the town station here went there and arrested three among them. The arrests were made on Thursday March 30.
The students, studying in a private college here, were staying in paying guest accommodation inside the residence of an individual at Nehru Nagar here, had organized birthday party. The police went there and subjected the students to medical tests. After the tests confirmed that three among them had consumed drugs, first information report was filed against them. The students secured release on bail on Friday.
The names of arrested students have been given as Ranganath (22), resident of Krishnanagar,Hassan, Abhishek Gowda (21) from Kushalnagar, and Narendra Prasad (21), resident of Koliyaru in Manjeshwar.
During the party at the paying guest accommodation on Thursday night, several students had consumed drugs. They were behaving strangely. After getting reliable information, police from the town station went there and took the students into custody. They were then taken to Mangaluru and put through medical tests. The tests proved that three of them had consumed ganja. There were arrested and produced in court on Friday. They were released on bail after they executed bonds.
A fight between two student gangs had happened three days back in Nehru Nagar area. There has been apprehension about the increasing habit of consumption of drugs among the students, which in turn can lead to criminal activities. This concern has become more prominent during the last two years, and last year, some student organizations had led a huge protest against the drug cartel.
