Udupi, Apr 1: Shirva police who swooped on an illegal slaughterhouse located behind a house near the mosque on the border between Belapu and Pakeeranakatte villages, took two persons into custody after finding that cows were being slaughtered there for selling beef. The operation was conducted in the early hours on Friday March 31.
The arrested persons happen to be Hussain (30), native of Megaravalli near Thierthalli and currently residing near Balapu, and Nissar Ahmed (28) from Belapu village. The raid was conducted after the police were alerted about the illegal slaughter of a cow behind the house of Hussain near the mosque.
The police found about 200 kg beef packed in a plastic bag, a pregnant cow with its stomach having been split horizontally, a hatchet, weighing scale, chair and other equipment found at the spot. All these items were confiscated.
Two other accused fled from the spot. Police are looking for four persons accused of running this slaughterhouse including the two who escaped from the scene. The raid was conducted by Shirva station house officer, Narasimha Shetty, under the guidance of Kaup police circle inspector, V S Halamurthy Rao.
