Mangalore, Mar 12: The district unit of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) will launch a religious harmony drive from Sunday March 16 to Sunday March 30, informed Abdul Salaam, convener of JIH at a press conference here on Wednesday March 12.
The prime concern of the 15-day campaign is to promote peace and harmony in the district. JIH wants to do away with communication gap between communities, eruption of communal violence and other undesirable developments and to inculcate values like religious tolerance and mutual understanding. The drive will also include door to door campaign, Mohammad Kunhi of Shanti Prakashana (Shanti Publication) said.
Deputy Commisioner M Maheshwar Rao will flag off 'Sauharda Vahini' a vehicle to disseminate the aims and missions of the campaign across the district in the presence of other higher officials on March 17. The campaign will conclude with a public conference at Nehru Maidan on March 29, he added.
Other members of the organizing committee were present at the press conference.
