Mangalore, Mar 12: The Microtron centre within the Mangalore University will be upgraded soon, with the advisory committee already seeking inputs from the faculty and research scholars for the same, informed Dr R K Bhandari associate director of the Board of Research in Natural Sciences (BRNS), after inaugurating the extension of Microtron building in Mangalore University here, on Tuesday, March 12.
 
Bhandari further stated that there were twenty-three ongoing research projects which utilise the microtron facility and ten research proposals. With this expansion, the potential of the microtron will reach it full potential, he added.

Prof. K Siddappa, former vice-chancellor Bangalore University said the faculty in the microtron centre needs to be  strengthened. And he said that in-order to enhance the quality of the on-going works, the extended building will be having a digital library and seminar hall soon. 
 
According to Siddappa its crucial for students to be motivated to undertake qualitative research in the said field. For this they should be exposed to microtron facility, he advised.
 
Moreover, comparing the country's progress to China with regard to the field of research, he pointed out that India's progress was minimal as compared to China, which has forged ahead from the low level. In this context he advised  “We must produce more quality papers to stand out in the international field.”
