M'luru: Unpleasant hoax call to Vinayak Baliga’s house - police crack case

Mangaluru, Mar 30: A police case was registered at Barke police station on Wednesday, March 22, regarding a call received at the residence of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

Harsha Baliga received the call at Vinayak’s residence, where the called said “Is it Harsha teacher’s house? Police may come to your house because of an accident. Please keep the gates open.” and hung up the phone before Harsha Baliga could react.

The people from Baliga’s house phoned many of their relatives to check who was involved in an accident. They did not get any news about any accident. Then they complained to ACP Uday Nayak. The ACP referred the matter to Barke police station.

Barke police who took up the matter seriously started the investigation. To their surprise, they came to know that the mobile phone from which the call came, belonged to a doctor in Lalbhag.  More surprisingly the call was not made by the doctor, but by his son who is in 6th standard now.

When the police dug deeper, they found out that the boy was going for tuitions at Baliga’s house two years back when he was in 4th standard.  The phone number of Baliga’s house was saved in mobile and the boy phoned the house.

Why he mentioned about the accident and police? This will never be known as the boy is a minor.
