Kundapur, Mar 11: Of late Byndoor, hitherto one of the most neglected places of coastal district of Udupi, is now the cynosure of all. It is infact fast acquiring importance in the eyes of the government officials, politicians and tourists alike.
The Konkan railway authorities were greatly surprised to note a remarkable increase in the income of railways here, to the extent of 5 lac's despite the railway station lacking even minimum infrastructure facilities. This improvement has encouraged the railway authorities to convert the station into a full-fledged modern one. Plans are also on the anvil to introduce passenger reservation facilities.
At present the Byndoor railway station is the scheduled stop for trains, that is for one passenger train and five express trains. However taking into consideration the heavy traffic load of travelers, the railway authorities have decided to further extend the facilities to special summer season trains also.
The possibilities of opening an aerodrome is also being considered. Raju Poojary, the present member of Udupi district panchayat has promised to upgrade the existing bus stand close to the railway station so as to facilitate pilgrims visiting the famous Mookambika temple at Kolluru.
Accordingly, the administrative trustees of the temple and the well-known industrialist R.N Shetty of Murdeshwar have come forward to stake a claim, in making the nature's beauty spot ‘Ottinene’ as a great tourist center of the state.
