Mangalore, Mar 11: A workshop on 'Soft skill development' was organised by the department of human resources of the Dr. M V Shetty college of social work at its campus in Vidyanagar, on the outskirts of the city on Mondy March 10.
Addressing the gathering Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) mayor Ganesh Hosabettu urging for better utilization human resource said that the abundant human resource available in the district should be properly tapped.
On a positive note he informed that Dakshina Kannada district has shown tremendous progress in all sectors including industry, banking and education. With regard to problems relating to civic amenities in the city, he opined that the water shortage faced by the denizens of the city will be solved as the Corporation has vowed to provide drinking water round the clock.
Hosabettu further stated that priority will be given to infrastructure development, widening of roads and malaria control in the city limits. Particularly with regard to the alarming rise in incidents of malaria cases in the district, expressing his apprehensions he said 19% out of the total malaria cases in the state was reported in Dakshina Kannada itself.
"Soft skills could be acquired only through practice," informed Suma S Rai, principal of Dr. M V Shetty college of social work, in the course of her speech at the function over which she also presided.
Also present on the occasion were Madhu Kiran, corporator, Dr. Norbert Lobo, professor St. Aloysius college economics, Dr Ranjith Shetty, trustee Dr M V Shetty college and K V Sebastian staff coordinator.
