Puttur: Tempo traveller falls down - three perish, 18 injured

Puttur, Mar 24: After the driver of a tempo traveller vehicle lost control over the vehicle, it tumbled down at the road bend on national highway 75 at Kempuhole in Sakleshpur taluk. In this incident, which happened on Thursday March 23, three persons lost their lives while 18 persons sustained injuries. Injuries suffered by some of the passengers are of grave nature.

Those who died in the mishap were Nanjappa (65) and Senamma (70) from Shantapura village in Tumakuru taluk, and Rajamma (60), a resident of Bagenahalli near Tumakuru. Gangamma (55), Ningaiah (60), Siddagangaiah (65), Honnamma (55), Byre Gowda (50), Sharat (6), Jayamma (60),all from Shantapura village, as well as Jayamma  and Govindaraj from Nandipura village sustained serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle to suffered serious injuries, and he has been admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.  His name and address are not known as yet.

The marriage of Satish, son of Rajamma from Shantapura, was to be held at Dharmasthala on Friday. For this purpose,   the entourage was moving in a tempo traveller vehicle and some cars to Dharmasthala, when the vehicle went out of the control of its driver at the double bend in Shiradi Ghat. The vehicle hit a bridge and then tumbled down, it is said.

The bodies of the deceased were kept in the mortuary of Crawford Hospital at Sakleshpur. The injured were provided preliminary care at Crawford Hospital before being shifted to the hospital at Hassan. Eight people, whose nature of injuries were serious, were sent to Mangaluru.

Immediately after they came to know of the accident, SDPI activists from Nelyady in Puttur taluk rushed to the spot with their vehicles and helped the injured to get admitted into hospital at Mangaluru.
