Mangaluru, March 21: It is difficult to gauge the pulse of the Coastalwood audience. Sometimes pure comedy films are a hit. At other times, love stories work well. However, Tulu film lovers seemed to entirely enjoy a Tulu art film, Madipu, this time around.
The growing tradition of going to Multiplexes to watch movies has become evident with this film. Earlier, there were talks that most people watch a Tulu film if it were put in single screen theatres. That opinion fizzled out after the release the film Madipu, following which, film producers have started screening Tulu movies in Multiplexes in lieu of single screen theaters.
Madipu, creating an intellectual audience day after day, showed that coastalwood is turning towards art films too. The film proves that tulu film enthusiasts will give up entirely-comedy movies for the sake of films that take on a more profound story.
The film being slowly embraced by the audience has inspired the movie team. Meanwhile, a plan to release the film in Bengaluru, Mumbai and abroad is taking shape. A letter by Tuluvas in Israel that they are willing to release the film at their own cost after noticing its quality and trailer has brought a renewed spirit to the team.
