Mangaluru: New train to Bengaluru to reduce travel time by 4 hours

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 20: A new inter city express train between Bengaluru and Hassan will be pressed into service with effect from March 26 this year. This train will further run to the city from Hassan. Therefore, people bound for Bengaluru from the city and vice versa will be able to save on travel time by three to four hours.

The officials of south west railway division have been making arrangements to run this train beginning Sunday next. The train is set to be flagged off by union railway minister, Suresh Prabhu.

This inter city express will start at Hassan at 6.15 am and reach Yashwantpur at 9 am. On its return journey, it will leave Bengaluru at 6.15 pm and reach Hassan at 9 pm.

The opening of the railway line via Shravanabelagola, which was pending since the last many years on account of various reasons, opens up possibility of inflow of tourists to Shravanabelagola, which is set to celebrate Mahamastakabhisheka of Baghubali next year. As a huge inflow of tourists from north India is expected then, special trains may be run to Shravanabelagola on that occasion.

The railway line project, which was approved in 1996-97 when H D Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister, suffered as Gowda had to vacate the seat within a few months thereafter. The project initially suffered from want of funds. With the laying of new tracks between Yashwantpur and Chikkabanavara, trains will now be able to run directly between Hassan and Bengaluru instead of taking the circuitous route as in the past. Earlier, trains between the city and Bengaluru were taking Mysuru route, which involved longer distance and need to change the engine.

The railway officials also plan to make the train that moves between Yashwantpur and city to run via Mysuru to Hassan to run directly without touching Mysuru soon, for the convenience of passengers.

The passenger train between Bengaluru and Hassan will leavel Yashwantpur at 7.30 am and reach Hassan at 10.30 am. On its return journey, it will leave at 12 noon and reach Yashwaput at 3.30 pm.

Kudla Express will run between Yashwantpur and the city on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The train starts from Yashwantpur at 7 am and reach Hassan at 9.45 am. It will reach the city at 4 pm. The train, on its return journeys on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, leaves the city at 10.50 am and reach Yashwantpur at 7.50 pm.

    Hi
We do need new line also .
Try to link karkala-dharmasthala- subramanya-moddabidri -udupi -shivmogga.I think Shimogga-Karkala -moddabidri -udupi-subrammnya via dharmasthala is a pending project.
New line study feasibility need to be initialted as this will reduce stress on roads.
chikkamaglur-saklespura is also pending I believe.
One british india project of wadi -gadag link is also pending i believe.
Kolar-mulbagal-Whitefield pending. Most are pending due to no land transfer done by GoK .Ankola-hubli due to environment issues.
Cost sharing of 50:50 is not acceptable to GoK.
Commuter rail for bengaluru is also not taking off due to this. Maybe its kannada- Telugu samrajya at work or its lack of political will due to interest in buses and trucks which is hindering the progress....... No offenses here ,anyone feel offensive my apologies.

Karnataka had few railway ministers like Jaffer Sharieef and George Fernandes earlier but major contributions to state apart from George's Mangalore-Mumbai coastal link, rest are all negligible. For example, Mangalore-Bangalore railway has highest revenue but it took so long years to bring into reality. Why cannot there be double tracks with speeds reduced to 8 hours. This will kill the private bus operator lobby also and reduce travel time by elderly people traveling in train.

Similarly, Bangalore-Mysore and Bangalore-Hassan are so close, yet we do not have fast tracks so that people can reach within 1 to 1.5 hours and decongest Bangalore. Many office goers of neighboring district will definitely travel daily if travel time is reduced.

This is high time all political parties shun ideologies and work towards making Karnataka competitive. If Chennai can all have all the important rail routes converted to broad gauge and have all fast trains, why not Karnataka?

If you paint everything in politics, then read: This was done by Suresh Prabhu ji who is central minister for Railways, and in central ruling party is BJP. State government has noting in it.

Yes, there is need for night trains. These trains that leave Mangalore at night should be timed in such a way that they arrive in Bangalore in the morning which will help people who are able to reach their work place after the Mangalore - Bangalore journey. Otherwise, the reduced time of journey will be of no use to the general public.

This may be due to logistics. Bangalore City Station is already overcrowded, may not take extra trains during the stipulated hours
