Mangaluru, Mar 18: Celebrating 100 episodes, Daijiworld 24x7 television channel's culinary marvel 'The Roshow' will be telecast live on Sunday March 19 from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, with host Averyl Rodrigues and co-hosts Khushi and Swathi.

The live programme will have interactive session where viewers can call in and speak with their host, Averyl Rodrigues. The call-in session is open for interaction in English, Kannada, Konkani and Tulu. "It's a good opportunity to further the interaction with my viewers," says an eager Averyl.

To up the celebration a few notches, team Roshow will be giving away prizes to lucky winners. Names of the callers go into the lucky pot and a few names will be picked at random during the show. These names stand to win exciting gift-hampers from Tupperware and gift-vouchers from Apple Mart.

The bilingual cooking show was first telecast on December 7, 2014, and has been successfully running for over two years now.

About Roshow

Roshow is Averyl Rodrigues' cookery show, that week after week presents delicious recipes for homemakers and gourmets. The name 'Roshow' is derived from the Konkani word 'Roso' which, like its Persian counterpart Rasoi, means a kitchen. Yet not quite like the ones these days, the Roso, was a makeshift kitchen specifically designed to cater to the guests at a wedding, in the yesteryears.

The show that connects one to the traditional past, also accommodates seasonal, continental and regional recipes. Basic dishes that use minimum oil, are healthy to eat and quick to cook are prepared step-by-step during the show.

The show also has a YouTube channel 'The Roshow - Daiji Kitchen' in English, with videos of episodes telecast on Daijiworld 24x7.

Averyl Rodrigues

A management and accounts professional in the past, Averyl began her delightful journey as an editor of the recipe column on daijiworld.com in 2004.

On her inspiration for Roshow, Averyl says, "People enjoyed my recipes on the blog and appreciated it and that flamed my enthusiasm for cooking, and the show."

Beginning 2014, her cookery show "The Roshow" is being telecasted on daijiworldTV24*7 on every Sunday at 11.30 am, with 3 repeat shows throughout the week.

Her YouTube channel 'The Roshow - Daiji Kitchen' is quite popular among food lovers globally.

In March 2015 she won 'Swad Kaju Ka' cookery contest organised by Cashew Growers Association in Mangaluru.

She was the finalist of national-level contest 'Bring Your Tastiest Bowl' conducted by Quaker India, judged by celebrity chef Vikas Khanna in the month of October 2016 at Taj Palace, New Delhi.

Averyl who has held cooking classes for children in October for the past two years looks forward to hosting workshops for basic and healthy recipes, on public demand.

A question that's on everyone's mind, to a culinary host, is 'how do you get the perfect recipe that is palatable to everyone?' Averyl Rodrigues explains the art of cooking. "Cooking is an art. One that goes hand in hand with patience. To strike the right recipe, I use a fair amount of 'trial and error'. When it comes to my own recipes, I attempt at moderation of sweet and spicy to cater to all tastebuds. Of course, there are a wonderful number of recipes that have also been contributed by my blog readers, which I use in my show. And I'm always thankful to my readers for their support, especially during the times I participated in culinary competitions."

I wish Daijiworld Publications would publish 'The Roshow' or "Daiji Kitchen' an unique cook book, a guide for newly married couples. Good luck!

The Roshow channel is great. I have learnt quite some stuff from the channel.

Thank you to all the people behind the scenes, and Ms Averyl Rodrigues for the persistence over a long period of time.

It was not clear to me what was meant by the term 'continental' in the sentence 'seasonal, continental and regional recipes'.

The term 'continental food/recipes' is used in Indian English as a broad reference to European food. The term may have come from the British English to refer to the European continent as distinct from the British Isles.

If referring to European-origin dishes, it may be more appropriate to call them European dishes, rather than 'continental dishes'.

As is quite natural, most European-origin dishes have gone through various transformations over time, and especially in India.

For example, today when people think of Italian food, they think of items cooked in tomato sauce. But most people in Italy did not use tomato sauce even in early 1800s (the first written reference to tomato sauce was in a cookbook in 1790).

Regardless, I believe that the term European recipes might be more appropriate than 'continental recipes'.

When the Indian Government decided to adopt the high-end expertise for the international travellers way back in 1954, there were no 5-star hotels in India.

The lead in developing the expertise was taken by one Sir Belfield Smith.

By 1962 the Indian Government had set up 3 catering technology institutes (then Bombay, Pusa in Delhi, and Madras).

Ms Thangam Philip (who became the principal of the Bombay Hotel Management Institute shortly thereafter), Ms K Arora (who vecame the principal of the Pusa, Delhi, Hotel Management Institute shortly thereafter) and a couple of young ladies were sent to Britain for their training.

Of course, the whole concept of the 5-star service was a novelty around the world at this time.

Regardless, the 5-star culture that India acquired was from Britain. And hence the British word for Continent - referring to the continent of Europe.

This term is widespread among the hotel management graduates - almost certainly due to the influence of people like Smith, Philip and Arora.

    Just a bit of history...

Yes indeed. Cultures and food go hand in hand.

One day, hopefully, I will try to write a few articles on food and cultures based on my experience. I think I have been exposed to much of that. But I do not have time to pen my thoughts.

For example, how the newly elected CM's cult has such an influence on some food in the Arab world! As much as it is laughable (especially considering how the CM has expressed his views against certain communities), it is very true.

And while we are on the topic of the new UP CM, the Kadri Mangaladevi temple with a history of several hundred years is closely connected to his cult.
