Mangaluru, Mar 18: Mangaluru, Mar 18: Two rounds of Pulse Polio Immunization will be held on April 2 and 30, informed
district health officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao.
Addressing mediapersons at the district office of health and family welfare department on Friday March 17, Dr Rao said, "Oral polio vaccine will be administered to children below five years of age in the district. The two phases of immunization on April 2 and 30 are being held to prevent any chances of the resurgence of polio here. Polio drops will be administered in the allocated booths on April 2 followed by house to house activity on April 3 and 4 in rural areas and April 5 in urban areas."
"The second phase of immunization will begin on April 30 in the allocated booths followed by house to house activity on May 1 and 2 in rural areas and May 3 in urban areas. As many as 726 teams have been deployed for this mission in rural areas and 195 teams in urban areas. Around 3816 vaccinators under the guidance of 199 supervisors will assist to complete the programme. In addition, arrangements have been made for nine mobile teams and 27 transit units to conduct the vaccination smoothly," he informed.
"The main vaccination centres include the district health centre, taluk health centre, public hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres. We have plans of extending vaccination centres at churches, railway stations, mosques and wedding venues after gaining necessary permission.
District RCHO Dr Ashok briefed the progress of MR vaccination programme which is nearing completion. He informed that the department has achieved 95 per cent success in the programme and it will conclude on March 19.
