Mangalore, Mar 7: The chairpersons of the city corporation standing committees were elected at meeting held on Thursday March 6.
Premanand Shetty of Mangaladevi ward was elected chairman of public health, education and social justice committee while Ranganath Kini, Court ward corporator assumed charge as the head of taxation, finance and appeals committee. Town planning and improvement committee will be headed by Naveenchandra of Kambla ward while accounts committee will be led by Rajani Dugganna of Hosabettu ward.
The four standing committees comprise of seven members, out of which five are of the ruling party and the rest from the opposition. They had been elected to their respective committees during the mayoral elections held last month.
Ranganath C Kini, Geetha N Nayak, K Revathi, Sudhir Shetty, Vijaya Kumar Shetty (all from BJP), Deepak Poojary and Gulzar Banu (Congress) make up the taxation/finance and appeals standing committee.
Rajani Dugganna, K Amita Kala, Madhu Kiran, Tilakraj, Surekha Srinivas (all from BJP), Basheer Ahmed and Ashok Shetty (Congress) are of the accounts standing committee.
The town planning and improvement standing committee comprises K Naveenchandra, Rajendra, James D’Souza, Padmanabha, M Rajashree (all from BJP), Lancelot Pinto and K Bhaskar (Congress).
Premananda Shetty, Sumitra Kariya, Praveen, Shakuntala D Karkera, Roopa D Bangera (all from BJP), Nagendra Kumar and S Appi (Congress) comprise the Public health, education and social justice standing committee.
Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu, deputy mayor Shakila Kava and commissioner in charge Ajith Kumar Hegde and others were present.
