Mangaluru, Mar 17: The relatives of a girl from Rayapattana in Haliyal, Uttara Kannada district, have approached Ullal police station here, seeking help for tracing the girl who has gone missing after coming to the city with the purpose of working in a fish mill located at Ullal.
Dondi Bai Chimanu Bajari (20), daughter of Babu Chimanu Bajari from Rayapattana in Haliyal taluk of Uttara Kannada district, who belongs to Siddi community, has disappeared, the complainants said. The lady had joined for duty at Kaico fish mill at Ullal about eight months back. Suneeta Dulu Bichchakale from Yallapur had brought Dondi Bai to the city and got her to join for work at the said fish mill.

Dondi Bai was to visit her native place for celebrating Holi, an important festival for Siddis, which was celebrated on March 13. She however, neither came home for Holi, nor gave any reasons for remaining absent. Her family members called her over phone, but Dondi did not receive the call. Later, they called Suneeta, who was the one who bagged a job for Dondi, but she too failed to pick the call. The family members were overtaken by anxiety at this development, and thereafter filed complaint at Haliyal police station. At the advice of the police personnel there, they came here to lodge a missing complaint.
In the meanwhile, Dondi Bai, in a cellphone message sent to her brother, asked him not to make any efforts to trace her. This message added to the worries of Dondi's relatives, who came to Ullal in search of the missing young lady.
As Suneeta, who claimed to be an agent of Kaico fish mill and had hired Dondi Bai to work for the said concern, has not been receiving calls, the needle of suspicion has turned towards her. The close ones of Dondi strongly feel that disappearance of Dondi Bai is the handiwork of Suneeta. Manuel Siddi, a social worker working for the interests of Siddi community, has expressed the suspicion that Suneeta would have lured a number of women like Dondi from Uttara Kannada and other north Karnataka districts with the promise of jobs and sold them to gangs involved with human trafficking.
