Mangaluru: Delegation collects no-objection certificates for Kambala from ministers

Mangaluru, Mar 16: As part of its efforts to see that the Kambala bill that is awaiting Presidential nod gets clearance at an early date, a delegation of Kambala enthusiasts led by union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, and Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, met minister for culture in the union government, Mahesh Sharma, on Tuesday March 14 and collected no-objection certificate from him.

The bill allowing holding of the Kambala has got the nod of Karnataka legislature. It was forwarded by the state governor to the centre, citing that the said ammendment to a central law was brought by the state legislature, and as such, it needs Presidential assent. No-objection letter has already been obtained from the law minister for the said bill.

Ashok Kumar Rai Kodimbady, who heads the legal battle to get permission to organize Kambalas, president of Kambala committee, Barkur Shantaram Shetty, and treasurer, P R Shetty, were present. The members of the delegation are hopeful that they will be able to get nod of the President for the bill in time to hold Uppinangady Kambala that is scheduled to be held on March 18.
