Mangaluru, Mar 15: Similar to 'Road Safety Week' conducted by RTO and Traffic Police department, A J Hospital & Research Centre also conducted safety week at all industries for the benefit of the public as well as the stakeholders. Wherever quality takes prime importance, major emphasis will be laid on safety of the people involved. Air travel is considered as the safest way, as there are hundreds of quality and safety checks at various levels before the flight takes off and lands. Similarly, patient safety is a prime concern in quality healthcare organization.
A J Hospital & Research Centre is a quality conscious hospital wherein patient safety at multiple levels is followed by the employees, which emphasizes on prevention and reduction of any errors in the daily routine. This year’s national safety message is 'Keep each other safe'.
'Pratiraksha' is an initiative by the hospital with an objective of involving key stakeholders including patients and their families in creating safety awareness in patient care. These measures are in addition to the statutory requirements by the government and the accreditation bodies. It is a voluntary effort by the employees of the hospital.
A J Hospital has a well-developed safety programme keeping in mind the patients and healthcare workers put together. This involves the facility management, hospital infection surveillance activities, strict antibiotic usage policy and patient risk assessment policy.
This programme also focuses on the involvement of hospital staff, medical students, public, patients and their bystanders to increase awareness on safety guidelines to be followed during their stay at the hospital as well as post discharge.
As a reward for these quality initiations followed at the hospital, various accolades have been awarded namely:

2017 – India Merchant Council Ramakrishna Bajaj National quality performance excellence trophy
2017 – Nursing Excellence award by NABH Quality council of India – 'first hospital to get this award in undivided Dakshina Kannada and one among just five hospitals in Karnataka'.
2017 – NABL certification for clinical laboratory.
2017 – Had the final accreditation inspection by NABH for emergency department and blood bank.
The awareness programme was inaugurated on March 13 and various programmes will be held for a week till March 18, during which various events have been earmarked with talks by experts in the field.
