Mangaluru, Mar 14: Ardent cricket fans gathered near Kududpu for an inter-parish underarm cricket tournament organised by 'Team Panjirel' on March 5 and 12.
The opening ceremony commenced of the much awaited tournament was held on March 5. Bhaskar Moily, corporator, Padav ward; E Fernandes, managing director, Four Winds Mass Communication Pvt Ltd; Sujan Das; Roshan Lasrado, vice-president, St Teresa of Kolkatta Church Paldane, umpires Vinod and Praveen; Alwyn Gomes and the senior members of the teams and Team Panjirel Members were present. Roshan Crasta lead the gathering and Alban Monteiro, ward gurkar welcomed the guests.
The tournament got an overwhelming response as 26 teams battled for the prestigious Team Panjirel Trophy. The matches were entertaining. Cricketers from all over the region showcased their talents in various matches. St Sebastian Permannur A and Permannur Sports Club contended in the finals in which St Sebastian Permannur came out victorious.
The prize distribution ceremony was held after the tournament. The chief guests of the ceremony were Walter Nandalike, managing director of Daijiworld and Praveen Tauro, marketing manager of Daijiworld.com.
Walter Nandalike shared his views on underarm cricket and how it had changed over the years.
Ivan and Prajwal from Permannur A and Permannur Sports Club were adjudges the best batsman and best bowler respectively. Shawn from Permannur A bagged the man of the match in the finals and the man of the series awards. A special Life Time Achievement Award was bestowed upon senior player of Permannur A Wilfred Montheiro.
Roshan Crasta, the backbone of the tournament was honored by his teammates.
The runner up trophy was presented to Permannur Sports Club by Walter Nandalike and Praveen Tauro. The winners trophy was presented to Permannur A team by Alwyn and Sanil Gomes.
