Karkala, Mar 14: Reired forest officer Sheikh Ismail Saheb passed away on March 10. He was 77 years old. He had served in Karkala, Moodbidri, Beltangady, Hennabailu, Megarahalli, Thirthahalli and several other places as forest officer and was popular due to his sincerity.
He indulged in social work after his service and was appreciated for his work in various groups and organizations.
He held various positions in Karnataka state retired employees association, Udupi district federation, Federation of Muslim education in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district and Jamia Tul Falah Karkala unit. He also served as treasurer of Karkala Muslim Jamaat.
He served in Karkal taluk minority unit for several years, as trustee of managing committee in Karkala's Kaje Jamia Islamia Kashifil Uloom and vice president in Karkala KMES Educational Institute.
Several leaders including former Karkala MLA H Gopal Bhandary had arrived to pay their last respects. The school had declared holiday for his death. He was a humble person. He has left behind his wife and six children including a writer son Irshad Moodbidri.
