Udupi, Mar 5: Students of Mallar Government College staged a walk-out on Tuesday March 5 in protest against the principal of the college who allegedly called a student 'terrorist.'
The students alleged that the principal Prof B Shamanna had called a second year BCom student Mohammed Ayaaz, a resident of Phakernakatte, as 'terrorist'. This made the students boycott the classes from morning till afternoon. When the incident was brought to the notice of Kaup circle inspector, the Kaup police came to the spot and tried to control the situation but in vain.
Mohammed said he was speaking on his mobile phone when the principal came and snatched away the cell phone. 'When I asked him to give it back, he demanded to know if I had connection with terrorists,' he said.
The student was fined Rs 25,000 and asked to bring his parents to the college. However, instead of bringing his parents, the student brought someone else.
Mohammed added, 'It is right that I have a few SIM cards but they are demo cards. I have a mobile shop and these SIM cards I use for recharging. For this he has handed me over to the police.'
