Mangalore, Mar 4: The fourth largest community in the state, the Idigas will have its own religious head.
A grand ceremony crowning Basava Idiga Marayya swamiji as the first Idiga community is being organized, in the campus of the newly-founded Arya Idiga Maha Samsthana at Solur in Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district on March 20.
The proposed religious head Basava Marayya who has been initiated to monkhood by Sri Murgharajendra Mahaswami of Chitradurga, will be ordained as Arya Sri Renukananda. mass weddings too will be conducted as part of the grand celebration.
Addressing press persons here on Monday March 3 Karnataka Pradesh Arya Idiga Sangha vice-president J P Narayana Swamy said tht they will have a common religious head for all the 26 sub-castes of the community, which will give a boost for the organizational and developmental activities of the community, he informed.
Moreover he opined "Having a common religious centre will ensure unity among the community members."
Billavas of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts would accept the swamiji as their religious head, disclosed Idiga leaders Harikrishana Bantwal and Vasanth Bangera.
