Bantwal, Mar 10: Thieves entered a locked house in Kalladka town in the taluk recently when the family was away and stole 12 sovereigns of gold ornaments kept in the cupboard. The stolen items have been valued at Rs 2.25 lac.
Owner of the house in question, K P Nizar, had been away visiting a relative at Melkar with his wife and child. When the family returned home the next day, the theft came to light. Nizar found to his dismay that the thieves had entered his house by bending the steel rods of the window. The thieves searched the cupboard after breaking open its door, and fled with the gold ornaments kept there.
A complaint about the theft stands registered in the town police station here. Deputy superintendent of police, Dr Raveesh C R, crime branch police sub-inspector, Gangadharappa, sniffer dogs, and finger print experts rushed to the spot and gathered evidence. The needle of suspicion is currently on locals who knew about the short absence of the family from its home.
