Puttur, Mar 4: The famous Koti-Chennaya Kambala of Dakshina Kannada, which began here on Sunday March 2 made in a record of 39 hours with 282 pairs of buffalo, concluded finally on Monday March 3.
The semi-final was held at 9:00 pm on Monday. The race was conducted in six divisions. A decision was taken earlier to hold the valedictory function on Monday afternoon but the competitions came to an end only at 12 am on Tuesday.
This has indeed been a record in the history of Dakshina Kannada that a race went on for a marathon 39 hours and that too with 282 pairs of buffaloes, informed Kambala committee president N Chandrahas Shetty. He also thanked all those who were responsible for this success.
On the occasion the committee distributed 50 kgs of 'Hurali' to each pair that took part in the competition. All the pairs which did not eat grass at the competition were rewarded Rs 1,000 individually. The entire event was organized by the Kambala committee under the leadership of industrialist Muttappa Rai.
