Chicago, Mar 8 : Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu from Chicago received 61st Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow Recognition in New York recently when the Lions Clubs International held their 39th Lions with the United Nations recently at UN in New York at the Grand Hyatt grand ballroom.
Dr Yamada from Japan who is the Chairman of Lions Clubs International Foundation awarded these recognitions during International Fellowship Banquet. 856 Lions were gathered to attend Lions Day with the United Nations the next day at the Assembly Hall where world leaders come to speak.
At the UN assembly hall some International personalities spoke to Lions of the World. Dr Timothy Shriver - chairman, spoke on Special Olympics; Maher Nasser - UN Director of the Outreach Division of the Department of Communications and Public Information, Lakshmi Puri - Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations & Deputy Executive Director of UN Women and Mina Emad Fernan Bhagat - Athlete, Special Olympics Netherlands.
Lions Club International President Chancellor Bob Corlew and Madame Lakshmi Puri signed a joint document on Women-Girls & the World and how to protect them from discrimination and harassment.
Lions International Essay Contest and Peace Poster Contest winners were awarded with a certificate, memento and $5,000 each.
Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu is a well known Mangalurean settled in the USA.
