Kasargod, Mar 5: The annual Pilichamundi and Raktheshwari Nemotsava as well as those of family Daivas was held as per traditions at Enmakaje near Perla in the taluk on Saturday February 4. The annual event evoked a sense of reverence towards the Daivas in addition a sense of re-assurance out of the word given by the Daivas to protect their devotees on the occasion. It coincided with the fourth day celebrations of the programmes lined up on the occasion of 'Nemotsava'.
As per traditions, head of Enmakaje Beedina Mane family leads the event. The family has, since neariy 500 years, been worshipping nine spirits or Bhootas since then. The spirits are named Pilichamundi, Guliga, Sathadevata, Korathi, Posa Bhoota, Chalena Bhoota and Raktheshwari.
After the shrine dedicated to the spirits caught fire in 1994 and was destroyed, a new building was constructed in 2004. Since then, the annual 'Nemotsava' programme is being arranged. Sudhir Shetty, head of UAE Exchange, who belongs to Enmakaje, and his family members have been the force behind this annul festival.
Thousands of people from near and far came to the 'Nemotsava' to seek blessings from the spirits. The programme in in which Pilichamundi Daiva gives a hearing to grievances of people and suggests remedial measures, has been extremely popular in the region. the devotees also receive blessed turmeric powder as Prasadam.
During the entire period of five days, the visitors were provided with sumptuous food. Leading personalities from the area, spiritual heads and political leaders graced the occasion.
