Kundapur, Mar 4: In a tragic incident, a woman died after falling off a moving bus at Haikady near Halady under Shankaranarayana police limits here on Saturday March 4.

The deceased has been identified as Saroja alias Rohini (42), wife of Nagaraj Damle, a resident of Haikady.

It is learnt that Saroja had to take her son, Mohit, who was sick, to doctor. The mother and son thus got into a private bus to Halady.

Saroja was standing near the front door of the bus. As the bus moved over a big pothole, she lost balance and fell out of the door on to the road. Eyewitness said that she sustained serious injuries as she landed on a stormwater drain, and died on the spot.

Her son Mohit was seated in the bus, hence was unhurt.

The body has been shifted to the local government hospital.

Shankaranarayana police have registered a case.

RTO should make it compulsory that every passenger Bus Should have Door Leaf and Door should be
closed before moving the Bus. Why our RTO officials are silent in this matter ? They are not concerned
for Passengers Safety ! Transport Authority Should take action immediately.

Karnataka may introduce seat belts for all the passengers in the bus...... Our bus riding on road is just like Theme Park Rides-thrilling roller coasters because of path-holes on the roads.

Appalled at the poor safety standards being followed by these public transport -private buses ...who dictates these polcies ..how are they able to bypass rules and regulations and run public transport vehicles with such poor safety standards ...The RTO ,the concerned transport authorities including the concerned ministry should be put behind bars atleast for a year. This will be a real eye opener for the concerned and may lead to some solution in the near future.

I am surprised to see that in Karnataka they keep open the bus doors while moving which is dangerous. In Kerala it is mandatory to closs the doors.

Mr Lawrence, the tragedy is that here in Karnataka, most city buses have no blessed doors to close! I agree with you - it is appalling. This particular instance is even more harrowing with the poor, sick child witnessing his mother's tragic demise. My heart goes out to the boy and his family. May God take Saroja into His embrace for eternal rest.

I am waiting for the day our buses will run with closed doors but they won't because they don't have 'time' and patience to wait to open and close the doors..RIP Saroja you are another victim of our corrupt and arrogant private bus mafia.

If buses are fitted with doors, this tragedy would have been avoided.
