Ramanagara, Mar 4: Unknown miscreants abducted a ten-year-old girl and threw away her body by the roadside after killing her in a barbaric manner. This incident happened at Magadi town in the district on Friday March 3.
The girl happens to be the younger child of her parents, who run a provision store at Magadi. She has a brother who is 16-year-old and studies in tenth standard. The girl in question was a fourth standard student.
The girl came to the shop at about 8.30 pm on February 1, handed over key of the house to her, and left the shop, duly informing that she was leaving for the house of a friend. After she left shop, within a few minutes, she she came across some street dogs that were barking furiously. Noting that she was afraid of the dogs, the people living in the neighbourhood had shooed away the dogs and asked her to proceed. This was the last point at which someone saw her alive.
The mother who came back home at 10 pm that day was surprised to find that her daughter was not there. She was overtaken by fear and searched in neighbouring houses and residences of relatives for her daughter. As the family's efforts to trace the girl went futile, the parents filed missing complaint at Magadi police station on February 2.
On Friday March 3, some people grazing their sheep and goats who saw that a lifeless body of a girl was lying by the side of a local stream on the road leading to Hosahalli, informed Magadi police. The police who conducted verification realized that it belonged to the missing girl.
There were telltale signs of puja procedures having been undertaken to appease some spirit near the body of the girl. Sliced lemons, flowers, vermillion etc were found strewn around the body for a distance of several feet. She was found gagged, her hands were tied together in the back, and a gunny bag was found wrapped around her waist. All these point to the possibility that the girl would have been offered as a sacrifice to please some ghosts or spirits.
Inspector general of police, Seemant Kumar Singh, and Ramanagara superintendent of police, B Ramesh, visited the spot and conducted inspection. The body was taken to a hospital at Bengaluru for postmortem. Ramesh exucded confidence that the guilty would be arrested soon.
