Udupi, Feb 24: “I have not worked against my conscience in whatever department I was employed. I have worked as per law and regulations,” said outgoing Udupi Deputy Commissioner, T Venkatesh at a farewell programme that was held for him at the district panchayat auditorium on Thursday, February 23.
“My transfer to Udupi district too was unexpected. I have now been transferred again before getting to know the district well enough. Transfer is typical for government servants. But I have disposed off files swiftly to prevent problems for ordinary man. Illegal mining has been stopped. As there were no restrictions on sand coming from other districts, there is no scarcity of sand for construction works in the district. No work is done against law. Government orders are followed regarding collection of toll. It was not my decision,” said T Venkatesh.
“Though there is a scarcity of officials in the district, the district stands first in Sakala and land allotment programmes. It was possible because of the cooperation extended by all the staff members and officers,” the outgoing DC said.
Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that the model of decisions taken by the outgoing DC with thorough knowledge in revenue matters, without bowing to pressure, and with concentration as per law would be an inspiration for the department.
Additional deputy commissioner G Anuradha speaking on the occasion, said that 152 acres government land was disposed of. 469 orders of conversion of (agricultural) land, disposal of 99% court cases, APMC election, transparent use of MP's funds, disposal of land legal cases and revenue department cases were successfully handled and disposed off during the short span of time.
Zilla panchayat vice president Sheela Shetty, corporation president Meenakshi Madhava, Udupi taluk panchayat president Nalini Pradeep Rao, and all district-level officials and staff, were present at the farewell.
Kundapur sub-divisional officer Shilpa Nag, ASP Vishnuvardhan, Deputy director of food supplies Yogeshwar and council president Manjunathayya spoke on occasion.
Sports Department assistant director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty compered the programme. Tahsildar Maheshchandra proposed the vote of thanks.
